SEA DOGS NAME THOMAS CAPTAIN

Saint John Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant finally named team captain and assistant captains this afternoon. Mike Thomas will where the "C" while Michael Kirkpatrick and Yann Sauve will wear the "A's."

The selection ends two months of speculation. The captaincy roll was expected to be between Kirkpatrick and Thomas going into training camp.

Thomas becomes the fifth captain in Sea Dogs franchise history. Vincent Lambert (2005-2006), Charles Bergeron (2005-2007), David McDonald (2007), Alex Grant (2007-2009), and David Stich (2009). Thomas has worn an "A" on his sweater six times, five this season and once in 2006-2007.

The 19 year old Fredericton native has no points in five games this season. He is one minute away from 300 career penalty minutes. In 185 QMJHL games with Saint John he has 14G-25A-39P-299PIM.

Kirkpatrick has worn an "A" for 62 career games. Sauve has been an assistant captain for nine career games, all this season. Both players, including Thomas, went to NHL camps.

According to the Sea Dogs official Twitter page, Thomas and the Sea Dogs will be featured on CBC New Brunswick News at 6:00 pm.
