GALLANT OFF TO AHL

Former Saint John Sea Dogs tough guy Brett Gallant has been loaned to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. The announcement was made yesterday after former Moncton Wildcat Tim Spencer was sent from Binghamton to Elmira.

Gallant had been playing for the Elmira Jackals of the East Coast Hockey League. In 13 games with the Jackals he had two assists and 73 penalty minutes. He has become a YouTube sensation with dozens of videos of his fights now online.

“Pound for pound, Brett is as tough a player as there is,” said Jackals coach Steve Martinson to the Summerside Journal Pioneer. “His style is like Joe Kocur; he’s trying to knock his opponent out in every fight.”

According to hockeyfights.com, Gallant had nine fights with Elmira and fought former PEI Rocket Jimmy Bonneau in the first period of his first AHL game last night in Rochester. A video of the fight can be seen below.

Gallant holds the Sea Dogs team record for fights in a career. He had 66 fights in two seasons with the Dogs. He is also the franchise leader in penalty minutes in one season with 192 in 2006-07.
