FINALLY, SOME RESPECT

Stanislav Galiev has been turning passes and shots into points all season long.

Why Galiev has not been placed as a projected first rounder in the upcoming NHL entry draft by many scouting services has been a bit of mystery.

Many scouts have said that his high point total is thanks to his all-star line mates Mike Hoffman and Nicholas Petersen. But as a reader of this blog pointed out, maybe Petersen’s and Hoffman’s high point total is thanks to Galiev.

Finally today, the first overall pick in the 2009 CHL Import Draft is projected to go late in the first round or at least early second this June at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. National Hockey League’s Central Scouting placed the Russian as the 23rd best skater in North America.

Galiev is first overall in QMJHL rookie scoring this season with 10 goals, 31 assists, and 26 penalty minutes in 43 games played. He also leads rookies with an impressive +33 rating.

The 17-year old will be a finalist for the RDS Rookie Excellence award this season and will play in the 2010 CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game in Windsor, Ont. next week.

Also named to the list were 17-year-olds Stephen MacAulay, ranked 72nd, and Danick Gauthier, ranked 125th.

In 38 games played, MacAulay has five goals and 12 assists while playing primarily on a Sea Dogs checking line. He missed both weekend games with what the team is calling a “lower body injury.”

Gauthier has played 43 games this season and has 10 goals and seven assists. He was named to the famous “Red Line Report” earlier this season after a hot start.

Windsor Spitfire forward Taylor Hall was named the top prospect in North America after an impressive World Junior campaign. The top ranked player from the QMJHL is Moncton defenseman Brandon Gormley who comes in at number eight.
