GELINAS GOING TO THE CATARACTES

Steve Turcotte is reporting on his blog that the Shawinigan Cataractes have traded for Saint John goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas. In return, the Sea Dogs receive a sixth round round draft pick in 2011.

The deal is not official as of now but will likely become official tomorrow. According to the report, Maxim Macenauer will not be joining the Cataractes as an overager which frees up room for Gelinas.

The goaltender became the odd man out when the Sea Dogs acquired fellow 20-year old net minder Marco Cousineau last week from the PEI Rocket. Gelinas was acquired from the Gatineau Olympiques on September 4.

Gelinas has been the best goaltender in the league this season and has the best goals against average among starters at 2.56. He is second in wins with 21 and has a record of 21-5-0. He registered 15 of the Sea Dogs' 22 straight wins.

Shawinigan plays in Saint John on February 20. The Sea Dogs lost in overtime in Shawinigan earlier this season.

The Cataractes sit third in the Telus Central Division with a record of 18-17-2-3 after going to the league final last season.
