Rookie Games Continue Today

After several tournaments took the day off yesterday, National Hockey League rookie tournaments get back into full swing today.

It’s the final day of the NHL Rookie Tournament in Oshawa, Ont. At 3pm AST, the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. At 8pm at the General Motors Centre, the Toronto Maple Leafs face their provincial rivals from Ottawa.

Chris DiDomenico is on the ‘Hawks roster for the tournament but was scratched last game. Nick Petersen, Alex Grant, and Simon Despres are all playing for the Pens in the tourney. The three have yet to play a game together however.

In Traverse City, the New York Rangers take on the Carolina Hurricanes and the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars battle in the afternoon contests. That evening, The Minnesota Wild face the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Buffalo Sabres meet the Detroit Red Wings.

Members of the Sea Dogs who taking part in the tournament include Zach Phillips (Minnesota), Scott Oke (Dallas), Stephen MacAulay (St. Louis), Ryan Tesink (St. Louis), Tomas Jurco (Detroit), Mathieu Corbeil (Columbus), and Mike Thomas (Columbus).

"It's nice to see all the guys, especially MacAulay, since we were drafted on the same team, so it's nice to go through it with someone you know," Ryan Tesink told NHL.com yesterday in an article about the number of players from the Sea Dogs taking part in the tournament. "I think it just goes to show how good a team we had last year and now a lot of guys are getting great opportunities coming to a great tournament like this."

Jonathan Huberdeau and the Florida Panthers are back in action today as well. They play the Nashville Predators tomorrow afternoon.

And at the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Tournament in Penticton, BC, the Edmonton Oilers take on Michael Kirkpatrick and the Winnipeg Jets at 11:30pm AST.
