THE BOOK

Fans still have the opportunity to pre-order the limited-edition commemorative book entitled “Hockey Heaven: A Look Inside the 2011 Saint John Sea Dogs, Memorial Cup Champions.” Pre-orders are being taken for the exclusive run of 500 copies.

According to the Sea Dogs website, “the book is filled with pictures, quotes, and behind-the-scenes looks at the team’s historic journey through the 2010-2011 season. Hockey Heaven focuses on the amazing playoff run to the President’s Cup final and ending with the Memorial Cup win over the host Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. All the special moments are commemorated, from opening night to the celebration parade down King Street. Records were broken, memories were made and brotherhoods forged. The tale stretches over a momentous season including two championships, both franchise firsts for Saint John. Regular-season champions two years running, the Sea Dogs went all the way and Hockey Heaven brings fans along for the ride. The 80-page, hardcover book is selling for $58 in honour of tying the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League record of 58 wins.”

Orders can be placed at this weekend’s home games as well as at the team's office at Harbour Station Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also order by phone by calling 657-DOGS (3647).

COOPER

Oliver Cooper was named the Sea Dogs’ RDS mid-season rookie award winner yesterday. One member from every QMJHL team received recognition.

''RDS is intent on highlighting the talent of young hockey players throughout Québec. We salute the determination, persistence and ambition of these 17 first-year players, whohave made a significant difference in the first half of the QJMHL schedule. We wish them the continued success they deserve for the remainder of the season'', said Patrick Jutras, Vice President, Sales and Marketing of RDS, in a release.

Cooper is having a solid first year in the Q, recording eight goals and seven assists in 33 games.

WJC ROSTER PREDICTIONS

Team Canada roster predictions for the world juniors continue to make their way onto the internet.

Over at Puck Worlds, Bruce Peter has Jonathan Huberdeau, Zack Phillips, and Nathan Beaulieu all making the team. He has Huberdeau on the second line with Ryan Strome and Mark Stone and Phillips on the third line with Quinton Howden and Brendan Gallagher. Beaulieu is listed as the seventh defenseman.

Over at Future Considerations, Aaron Vickers has Huberdeau and Phillips making the squad.

CATARACTES COMPLAINING

Shocking news: the Shawinigan Catacaractes are complaining about something.

In Monday’s edition of Le Nouvelliste, the Cataractes claim that a goal that went under review should have counted.

“Listen, the third goal was good, my players on the ice saw, my assistant keeper on the bench too. We even saw a player on the other side to tell his coach during the video review,” said Shawinigan coach Eric Veilleux, as translated by Google.

Three more meetings between Saint John and Shawinigan this season. It’s gonna be fun.

CAMPBELL

Sea Dogs prospect Colin Campbell was named the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s player of the week yesterday. From the MHL website:

Campbell helped lead the Mariners to a weekend sweep of Truro and Summerside. Friday night against Truro, Colin scored the game winner in the first period, and added his second of the game in the second period to ensure the Mariners a 3-0 victory. Saturday night vs Summerside in a 9-2 win Campbell lead the charge with 4 assists. Totaling 6 points in two games and two game stars, Campbell is now top 5 in the MHL scoring race. Campbell, who missed games to attend the Canada East Training Camp, hopes to play university hockey in the future.

Campbell, selected by Saint John in the ninth round of the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft, has two assists in four games with the Sea Dogs this season.

BRICKLY

Connor Brickley, who’s QMJHL rights are owned by Saint John, was named to Team USA’s preliminary roster for the World Junior Hockey Championships. Their camp begins Saturday, December 17. The roster is expected to be named on December 22.

Brickley, a second-round pick of the Florida Panthers in 2010, has eight goals and two assists in 14 games with the University of Vermont this year.

Saint John picked Brickley 124^th overall in this past summer’s QMJHL Entry Draft.

RDS had a great feature on Jacques Beaulieu’s time with the Sea Dogs this week en francais.

It seems like the trades and draft choices Beaulieu made become more and more incredible as time passes by.
