WJC Today - 12/17/11

TEAM CANADA
Saint John Sea Dogs captain Jonathan Huberdeau participated in part of Team Canada’s practice yesterday as he continues his recovery from a broken foot.

According to PostMedia News, “the sublimely skilled winger, who has been rehabbing a broken foot, skated for 15 minutes prior to Friday’s intense morning practice at Fenlands Arena in Banff. He also joined the national junior team on the ice for about 20 minutes of drills."

“It doesn’t bother me any more,”said Huberdeau. “So that’s good, but still, my conditioning isn’t there yet. I just have to work hard now and keep going slowly.

“No (pain) on the ice but off the ice, I feel it a little more.”

The article also states that Team Canada would like to see him play in one of their three exhibition games.

TEAM SLOVAKIA
Meanwhile, Tomas Jurco missed Friday’s Sea Dogs game in Cape Breton because he has departed to Alberta for Team Slovakia’s world junior camp. Their camp begins today. The Slovaks will meet Finland on Dec. 21 in Winsport and the U.S. National Team on Dec. 23 in Three Hills in pre-tournament action.

TEAM USA
Charlie Coyle and Team USA begin camp today as well in Camrose, Alberta. The Americans will name their final roster on December 22. Coyle is one of eight returning players that helped Team USA capture bronze at last year’s tournament.

The camp will include exhibition games against Russia (Dec. 20), Switzerland (Dec. 21) and Slovakia (Dec. 23).
