VIDEO: Huberdeau's Elbow On Rupert

Not even a month removed from a two-game suspension, Saint John Sea Dogs captain Jonathan Huberdeau finds himself in some hot water once again.

Just 16 seconds into Saturday’s game against the London Knights at the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup, Huberdeau received a two minute penalty for this elbow on Matt Rupert.

Rupert was not injured on the play.

It was similar to the hit Huberdeau was suspended for earlier this month. In the opening minute of Game 5 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semifinals against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, Huberdeau hit Charles Hudon in almost the exact same place on the ice. There was no penalty on that play but Huberdeau would be suspended for the first two games of the President’s Cup final.

Despite scoring a goal, it was a rough night for Huberdeau on Saturday. With just over two minutes left in the game and his team down by one, Huberdeau picked up two roughing penalties on the same play.

Hard to say what happens now but losing Huberdeau for any length of time at this tournament would be a massive loss.

  1. Huberdeau's elbow hit Rupert on the shoulder and then glanced off, hitting him in the helmet. The head wasn't targetted. It wasn't a dirty hit, just an elbow that he got two minutes for. Case closed
