Reports: 'Cats To Acquire Top Import Pick

It appears the Moncton Wildcats will be getting the first overall pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Jean-Francois Plante of Le Droit first reported last night that the Wildcats would acquire the pick from the expansion Sherbrooke Phoenix. A source told Metro Halifax that Moncton will trade “a player and multiple draft picks” to acquire the import pick.

The deal is expected to made official on Friday when the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trading period begins.

It’s unclear who the Wildcats are eyeing for the import draft but they certainly have the resources to bring over a big time prospect.

The Wildcats, coming off back-to-back first round playoff exits following their President’s Cup win in 2010, have Czech netminder Roman Will who is eligible to return as an import player next season. Will was one of the top goaltenders in the league last year. Their other import last season, Marek Hrivik, has turned pro.

The Sherbrooke expansion draft will be held tomorrow morning. Friday should be just as eventful for the Phoenix as they have been linked to plenty of trade rumours and reports over the past few weeks.
