It's Down To Three

It’s down to three in the PEI Rocket name-the-team contest. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League franchise announced today the three name possibilities that remain.

The names open for voting are: the PEI Confederation, which accounts for Confederation and Confederates submissions; The PEI Islanders, which accounts for Islanders and Jr Islanders submissions; and the PEI Riptide, which accounts for Riptide and Riptides submissions.

Fans can now vote for their favorite name on-line at www.peirocket.com/rename_your_team or at any Tim Horton’s location across PEI, beginning Saturday.  Voting closes Wednesday, September 19 at 5 pm.
The new name will be announced during the first intermission of the Rocket home opener on September 21, versus the Moncton Wildcats.  At this time, there will be a representative for each name on the ballot, taken to centre ice.  Two of the people will be eliminated and the last person standing will represent the new name, which will take effect after this hockey season.  Each person representing their respective submissions will receive a complimentary gift for their entry.  In addition to this, the winning representative will receive the team’s new jersey at the beginning of next year’s hockey season and an autograph stick from this year’s team.  The three representatives will be drawn through random draws from their respective naming groups.

The team received over 5000 total entries, including almost 500 new name suggestions. Fans can vote on one of the three options HERE.

PEI Confederation sounds bizarre. Calling them the Confederates would have been much better in my opinion. PEI Riptide is whatev.

They are probably going to be called the Islanders. The Prince Edward Island Islanders. Oh dear.
