The Vancouver Canucks announced yesterday that forward Steven
Anthony has been assigned to the East Coast Hockey League’s Kalamazoo Wings and
goaltender Mathieu Corbeil has been assigned to the Central Hockey League’s Missouri
Mavericks.
Anthony, a seventh round pick of the Canucks in 2009,
spent four seasons in Saint John from 2007-2011. Last season, the Halifax
native recorded eight goals and 12 assists in 34 games with the Wings.
Corbeil, who signed a minor league deal with the American
Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves over the summer after not being signed by the
Columbus Blue Jackets, guided the Sea Dogs to the President Cup last season. He
recorded a 37-10-1 record in the regular season to go along with a 2.38 goals
against average and a 0.911 save percentage.
The Phoenix Coyotes assigned forward Maxime Villemaire to
the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators. Villemaire signed a minor league deal with the
Coyotes over the off-season. The soon-to-turn-20-year old registered eight
goals and three assists in 16 regular season games with Saint John last year
and added another three assists in 13 playoff games.
The Milwaukee Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the Nashville
Predators, assigned defenseman Charles-Olivier Roussel to the ECHL’s Cincinnati
Cyclones. Roussel was a second round pick of the Preds in 2009. Roussel scored
13 goals and 27 assists in 58 games as an overager with Saint John last season.
He added another three goals and 12 helpers in 17 playoff contests.
