RECAP: Knit It Up. Dogs Win 3-1.

FINAL: Cape Breton 1, Saint John 3

SAINT JOHN – Saint John took on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on a Toonie Tuesday evening at Harbour Station.

Sebastien Auger guarded the net for The Sea Dogs while David Honzik stepped into net for The Eagles.

FIRST PERIOD

The Eagles started things of quickly as Bronson Beaton scored the first goal of the game at 1:34.

Oliver Cooper tied things up at 12:22, beating a fallen David Honzik upstairs. The goal came courtesy of some nice work by Noah Zilbert and Stephen MacAulay.

Kevin Gagne was the next to score for Saint John at 15:57, beating Honzik with a shot from the point. Tesink and Izacky grabbed the assists. Saint John stepped into the lead, 2-1.

Raphael Corriveau headed off to the box at 18:06 after he was called for interference.

Shots in the opening frame were 8-5 Cape Breton.

SECOND PERIOD

Oliver Cooper sent the Dogs to the penalty kill after being called for slashing at 2:42.

The Eagles went on the defensive after Clark Bishop, Raphael Corriveau and Sea Dog Noah Zilbert all headed to the box for roughing at 5:15.

Zilbert was sent off the ice after an Eagle player caught a high stick with only minutes left of the second period.

The Dogs had plenty of scoring opportunities in the second, out shooting Cape Breton 18-3.

THIRD PERIOD

Justin Hache took an interference penalty at 4:11 as Matthew Highmore was sent to the ice.

Alexandre Lavoie kept the Eagles on the penalty kill as he was sent off for high sticking at 5:45.

Highmore headed off to the bench after taking a spill and Cole Murphy was sent to the box at 10:46 for tripping.

Jason Cameron went to the box next at 13:46 for tripping.

Oligny and Tesink were next to the box.  Oligny went for high sticking, Tesink headed out for slashing. Both penalties were at 16:64.

Aidan Kelly scored an empty netter with 1:02 to seal the deal. This was the third Sea Dog goal as well as Kelly's first of the year. The Sea Dogs lead 3-1.

The final score would end at 3-1 with total shots on goal being 29-23 in favour of the Dogs.

Saint John went 0-for-5 on the power play while Cape Breton went 0-for-3.

NEXT GAME: The Dogs travel to Moncton for their next game to take on their rivals, the Wildcats, this Friday. The puck drops at 7:00pm.
