SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs met Kevin Gagné and the Rimouski Oceanic in Sunday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. RImouski took the contest by a score of 8-2 in front of 4,221 fans at Harbour Station.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Matthew Highmore (lower body), Jurij Repe (hand), Justin Dickinson (healthy), and Jeremy Doucet (healthy) on Sunday afternoon.

PRE-GAME: There was a pre-game ceremony to honour former Sea Dog and current Oceanic defenseman Kevin Gagne before the game. Along with a video tribute, Sea Dogs president Wayne Long presented Gagne his Sea Dogs jersey. There was a standing ovation.

It was also Francofan day at Harbour Station and Gagne took the ceremonial faceoff with Pierre Durepos.

Gagne was solid in his return to Harbour Station, recording a goal, an assist, four shots, and a +3 rating.

COOPER: It was a long time coming, but Oliver Cooper ended his goal drought by redirecting an Olivier LeBlanc point shot at 5:40 of the first period. Cooper hadn’t scored since December 11 and hadn’t gotten a point since December 31. He now has seven goals and eight assists in 52 games.

SMALLMAN: Spencer Smallman is on a bit of a hot streak. With an assist on Cooper’s first period goal, the rookie forward has two goals and three points over his past four games.

TRAINOR: Peter Trainor is having quite a season and has basically dominated Saint John. The Fredericton native leads the league in scoring thanks to a five-point performance yesterday with 86 points in 54 games. In three games against Saint John this year, he has collected six goals and seven assists.

LAVOIE: Alexnadre Lavoie had a hat trick and added an assist yesterday. He has 12 goals and 16 assists in just 12 games since being traded to the Oceanic.

OKE: Besides Gagne, there was another former Sea Dog in action in Scott Oke. He chipped in with two assists yesterday. Oke has 24 goals and 34 assists in 43 games with Rimouski this season.

POWER PLAY: The Oceanic went 3-for-6 on the power play yesterday. Every goal in the first – including Saint John’s - was scored on the man advantage.

DONAGHEY: One of the few bright spots in the game happened in the third period when Connor Donaghey scored his first QMJHL game. The Newfoundlander has a goal in six games with Saint John this year.

AUGER: Sebastien Auger got pulled after allowing six goals 26 shots through 40 minutes of action. Alex Fournier took over but didn’t help a whole lot as the first shot he faced went in. Fournier allowed two goals on 14 shots in relief.

VS RIKI: This was the final meeting of the regular season between Saint John and Rimouski. The Oceanic won all three matches. If the playoffs started today, these two would play each other in the first round. What fun that would be.

DOIRON: Linesman Jay Doiron made his return to the ice on Sunday, taking part in his first game since the infamous Jonathan Huberdeau Incident back in December.

STANDINGS: Saint John still sits 15th overall in the league with a 20-32-1-0 record. The Sherbrooke Phoenix won in a shootout yesterday and are now five points back of the Sea Dogs.

NOTES: This should have been the final game of a Maritime road trip for Rimouski but their game on Saturday in Moncton was postponed until today… Ross Yates ran the Sea Dogs bench once again with Mike Kelly away scouting… Peter Trainor also led the Oceanic in shots with seven… Casey Babineau had three hits… Oliver Cooper had three shots… Olivier LeBlanc had three hits.
