Game 3 Eve

The Halifax Mooseheads have departed for Saint John where they’ll take on the Sea Dogs in Game 3 of their first round playoff series tomorrow night at 7pm.

After blasting the Sea Dogs 11-1 on Friday night, Saint John – led by goaltender Sebastien Auger – made things interesting on Saturday. A third period goal by Matthew Boudreau gave the Mooseheads a 2-1 win.

Even though Saint John was outshot 45-15, they came close to at least sending the game into overtime. That’s an accomplishment when you’re the No. 16 seed in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League taking on the No. 1 ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.

Halifax leads the best-of-seven series 2-0, meaning they can put the Sea Dogs on life support with a win tomorrow night.

Some other stuff:
  • The Sea Dogs have scored just two goals so far in the playoffs, the fewest in the league. They’ve given up 13, the second most in the league.
  • Good column from the Chronicle Herald’s Chris Cochrane on the role a hot goaltender can play in the post-season. See: Auger, Sebastien.
  • Fur coat city.
  • The Mooseheads learned some stuff from Saturday’s game.
  • Lots of tickets available for Game 3 tomorrow and Game 4 on Wednesday.
  • Via John Moore, Mike Kelly and Ian Saab speak.
