Halifax Metro Centre – Halifax, NS
PREVIEW
HALIFAX – In what could be a preview of a first-round playoff series, the Saint John Sea Dogs and Halifax Mooseheads face each tonight at the Metro Centre. Game time is 7pm.

If the playoffs started today, the Sea Dogs and Mooseheads would square off in the first-round. Halifax has already clinched first overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and will face the team that finishes 16th. Saint John currently sits in 16th but could move ahead in the standings.

The Sea Dogs enter play today with a 23-42-1-0 record which is good for 47 points. They are one-point back of the 15th-place Sherbrooke Phoenix. Both teams have two games remaining in the regular season. The Dogs play Halifax and PEI while Sherbrooke faces Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d’Or.

The Sea Dogs have been trying to catch the Phoenix for what feels like forever now. If Sherbrooke wins tonight and Saint John loses in regulation, the Phoenix clinch the No. 15 spot.

Jakub Izacky leads the Dogs in scoring with 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points in 61 games.

Halifax enters action tonight with a league best 56-6-3-1 record. They are the No. 1 team in the Canadian Hockey League according to the BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 Rankings.

The Moose have been hot down the stretch despite having some injuries to key players. They have picked up at least a point in 15 straight games and are 9-0-1-0 in their last 10 games.

Jonathan Drouin leads the league in points with 41 goals and 63 assists for 104 points in 47 games. PEI’s Ben Duffy also has 104 points but has played 19 more games than Drouin.
