PREVIEW
HALIFAX – Game 1 did not go well for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Despite being outshot 24-4 in the first period, Saint John trailed just 2-1 entering the second. But after Ian Saab took his match penalty for high sticking, the Halifax Mooseheads turned on the engines and never looked back.

The Mooseheads scored eight times in the second period en route to an easy 11-1 victory over the Sea Dogs last night at the Halifax Metro Centre. Saint John looks to at least make a game out of tonight’s Game 2 which begins this evening at 7pm at the Metro Centre.

Sebastien Auger will very likely get the start again tonight for the Sea Dogs despite giving up seven goals on 38 shots yesterday. Despite what the stats may suggest, Auger was very good and at least kept the Sea Dogs in the game for a period. He made some ridiculous stops in the opening frame.

Halifax showed last night just how talented they are offensively. Martin Frk had five goals and eight points, Jonathan Drouin had six assists, and Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and two helpers. Saint John just could not contain the trio at all.

Penalties also hurt Saint John last night as Halifax went 4-for-10 on the power play. Besides Saab’s five minute infraction, there were some other needless penalties taken as well. It’s probably not the greatest idea to take such penalties when playing the highest scoring team in the league.

After tonight’s game, the series shifts to Saint John for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
