League Modifies Tesink Decision

Just when you thought the Ryan Tesink trade controversy was over, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced tonight that the league’s decision on the matter has been modified.

The two organizations in talks with the Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, decided to make a change to the compensation which will be given to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the Tesink case.
The compensation is as follows: The Armada get compensatory choice number 19 in the June 2014 Draft. Moreover, the Saint John Sea Dogs yield to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada their third-round pick in the June 2014 Draft.
The Commissioner wishes to acknowledge the cooperation and openness of the two teams in the conclusion of this case.

The original decision had the Armada receiving the fifth overall pick in next year’s draft while the Sea Dogs were not harmed. The league’s revision makes much more sense.

The major problem with the league’s original decision was that they were given the fifth overall pick, thus hurting the draft status of every team who didn’t select in the top four.

Let’s hope this craziness never happens again.
