AHL PLAYOFFS
Alex Grant and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had
their season come to an end on Saturday with a 7-0 loss to the Syracuse Crunch.
The Pens lost the AHL’s Eastern Conference Final series in five games.
Grant did not play in the deciding Game 5 but did record
two goals and two assists in 13 post-season games.
Tomas Jurco and the Grand Rapids Griffins have a 3-2
series lead in the AHL’s Western Conference Final over the Oklahoma City Barons
thanks to a 3-0 win in Game 5. Jurco had a goal, five shots, and a +1 rating in the game.
Game 6 is on Tuesday in Grand Rapids.
CALDER
Jonathan Huberdeau is Hockey Future’s pick to win the Calder Trophy. He edged out Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher as their pick to win
the NHL’s Rookie or the Year award.
“While the Panthers did not make the playoffs, and
Gallagher was a key part of the Habs' resurgence, a majority of the staff felt
that Huberdeau's key role as one of the primary scorers for his team gave him
the nudge over Gallagher,” writes HF.
Another former Sea Dogs forward, the Minnesota Wild’s
Charlie Coyle, was listed as a “notable” by the website.
DESPRES
NHL.com has named former Sea Dogs defenseman Simon
Despres the best 30th overall pick in first-round NHL Draft history.
It seems kind of surprising at first, but you must remember
that there have only been 13 30th overall picks ever because of league expansion. The majority of those picks have yet to make a huge impact in
The Show.
Other players receiving votes were David Steckel, Rickard
Rakell, Jim Slater, and Brock Nelson.
ARBY'S
Even after the Ryan Tesink trade controversy, Arby’s
still has their Tesink shrine up on the wall.
