Sea Dogs Cut 16 From Camp

The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced their first round of cuts.

The 16 players released from Saint John’s training camp roster are as follows:

Jeremy Brown (LW), Charles Corriveau (D), Mark Creaser (LW), Joey Daccord (G), Jonathan Erbs (C), Tyler Hoffman (LW), Shane MacDonald (D), Justin McDonald (D), Jacob McNutt (RW), Connor Merkley (C), Maxime Michaud (G), David Mosher (D), Mathieu Newcomb (LW), Chris Sarault (C), Christopher Smith (G) and Gabriel Tessier (LW)

No huge surprises in this first wave of cuts. Although a few of them did look decent in camp and in exhibition games, they were still in tough to make the team because, to put it simply, there are better players ahead of them. It’s believed a few also left to keep NCAA eligibility which is understandable.

The players cut today have been reassigned to their respective midget or junior teams.

With Daccord leaving to maintain his NCAA eligibility and Smith and Michaud cut, Sebastien Auger and Antoine Landry are the only goaltenders currently in camp. Alex Fournier, Auger’s backup last season, is not currently participating in camp. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the backup situation.

According to a press release, “Saint John now has 15 forwards, 10 defenceman, and two goaltenders remaining in camp” (those numbers don’t include Kelly Bent, Juraj Siska, Jurij Repe, or Fournier).

Sea Dogs training camp continues this week to prepare for this weekend’s pre-season contests against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
