ALUMNI WEEKEND
The Inaugural Wallace McCain Memorial Alumni Weekend
appears to have been a success.
According to a Sea Dogs press release, “the game, several
auctions and a barbecue, raised over $10,000, with more to come through online
auctions.” Money raised from the weekend went to the NB chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation, Top Corner Fund, and the Brendon Oreto Foundation.
By the sounds it, the second Wallace McCain Memorial
Alumni Weekend will take place next August.
"Sea Dog players have a strong affinity for the city
and organization and they and the fans want to make it an annual event," Sea
Dogs Foundation board member and team vice-president Mike McGraw said. "We
look forward to the second annual Alumni weekend coming next August!"

WEBSTER
Bailey Webster was released from Sea Dogs training camp
this week and was also involved in a Maritime Junior A Hockey League trade.
Webster, a second-round pick of the Truro Bearcats in
this year’s MHL Draft, had his MHL rights traded to the Miramichi Timberwolves
along with future considerations in exchange for goaltender Jordan Kennedy.
The 16-year old defenseman was a seventh-round pick of
Saint John in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft. He had two goals and eight assists in
35 games with the NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League’s Cornwall Thunder last year.
MALONE
The Sea Dogs also released Brett Malone from their camp
roster this week. So what now? Hockey Scene has some details.
Head Coach and General Manager Mike Kelly said that Malone had passed through the waiver process once and if he does so again that he understands Malone will join the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
Asked about the move Kelly simply said, "we are rebuilding you know".
We are in the downtown core of rebuild city, folks.
Malone had two goals and an assist in 22 games with Saint
John in the second half of last season.

LEADERS
Matthew Highmore still leads the Sea Dogs in pre-season
scoring with four points – one goal and three assists – in two games.
Joey Richard and Michael Abbott lead the team in goal
scoring with two goals each.
If you're into +/- stats, rookie defenseman Thomas Chabot is a team best +6 while
Alexander McQuaid is a team worst -5.
Oliver Cooper has the most penalty minutes with 11.
UP NEXT
The Sea Dogs have the weekend off but return to
pre-season action on Friday, September 6th in Bouctouche against the
Moncton Wildcats.
Saint John’s final exhibition home game is on Sunday,
September 8th at 3pm at Harbour Station.
The Sea Dogs and Wildcats play three straight games against each
other beginning on the 6th. The stretch ends on September 13th
with Moncton hosting Saint John in the first game of the regular season for the
Sea Dogs.
