The Sea Dogs play their final games of the pre-season
this weekend. The Dogs travel to Bouctouche tomorrow to take on the Moncton
Wildcats at 7pm. Then on Sunday the same two teams battle at 3pm at Harbour
Station.
Saint John’s regular season starts in just over a week.
The Sea Dogs open up the 2013-14 season on Friday, September 13th in
Moncton.
The Sea Dogs home opener is also just a few weeks away.
Saint John hosts Bathurst at Harbour Station on Saturday, September 21st
to kick off their home schedule.
DIDOMENICO
Former Sea Dogs star Chris DiDomenico will play in Italy
again this season.
It was announced this week that DiDomenico will play for
Asiago once again this year after a successful 2012-13 campaign. In 37 games he
had 22 goals and 38 assists. In 15 playoff matches he added another 11 goals
and 31 helpers.
If you translate this article, it sounds like the fans
over there enjoy watching him.
DiDomenico spent parts of three seasons with Saint John
from 2006-2008. His junior career was highlighted by helping Team Canada win gold
at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship.
MACDONALD
Former Sea Dogs defenseman Spencer MacDonald (pictured) has committed to the St. Thomas Tommies for the 2013-14 season. He is the eighth member
of last year’s Summerside Western Capitals squad to commit to a CIS school for
the upcoming season.
"Spencer was a key member of the 2012-13 Capitals,
logging big minutes on the top defensive pairing, and also playing through
multiple ankle injuries over the last 15 games of the season," Caps
General Manager Pat McIver told Hockey Scene.
MacDonald played 63 games with Saint John in 2011-12,
scoring three goals and adding seven assists. He had two assists in three
playoff games.
GELINAS
Over at Hockey Buzz, Todd Cordell explains why he thinks
Eric Gelinas will make the New Jersey Devils this season.
“That brings me to Gelinas, who I think is the favorite
to make the team right now,” Cordell writes. “With Gelinas you get the full
package. He's good at both ends of the ice and possesses a bomb of a shot. He's
a weapon on the power play, too, and with Ilya Kovalchuk no longer a Devil,
they could certainly use his shot.”
RICHARD
The Sea Dogs website has an article on Joey Richard
today. Richard was a third-round pick of Saint John in June’s QMJHL Entry
Draft.
“I was really nervous,” Richard said about the draft. “I
wanted to stay in the Maritimes, so when some of the teams were picking that I
didn’t want, I would be nervous and hope to wait. But when Saint John came up,
I wanted to go there for sure. “
