Sea Dogs Pre-Season By The Numbers

Here’s a look at some numbers from Saint John’s pre-season. They don’t really mean much… but they also sort of do… but at the same time they don’t… so… yeah.

  • The Sea Dogs finished the pre-season with a 3-3 record. They went 2-1 at home and 1-2 on the road.
  • In their six pre-season games the Sea Dogs scored 20 goals and allowed 20 goals. They had a +2 goal differential in first periods, +6 in second periods, but were -9 in third periods.
  • Saint John’s power play ranked 16th with a 10.5% rating. Their penalty kill was eighth best at 84.6%.
  • The Dogs allowed an average of 37.17 shots against per game, the most in the league. They averaged 28.83 shots for per game, the 11th most.
  • The Sea Dogs averaged 20.67 penalty minutes per game, the fourth least.
  • Saint John had a 3-0 record when leading after the second period.
  • Matthew Highmore led Saint John in pre-season scoring with five points (one goal and four assists) in four games. Highmore’s four assists were also the most on the team.
  • Michael Abbott, Stephen Anderson, and Oliver Cooper all came in right behind Highmore with two goals and two assists for four points each.
  • Thomas Chabot was a +7 this pre-season, the second best rating in the league.
  • Lukas Walter had the most penalty minutes on the team, managing to get 19 in just two games.
  • Sebastien Auger ended his solid pre-season with a 1.93 goals against average, the second best in the league. His save percentage of 0.946 was the best. He allowed five goals against on 93 shots in 155:43 minutes of action.
  • Nathan Noel, the third overall pick in June’s QMJHL Entry Draft, did not record a point in exhibition action. He did have some quality scoring chances he couldn’t cash in on though. Noel recorded six shots and went 31/59 on faceoffs in the four games he played in.
