Huberdeau, Coyle Begin Seasons Tonight

Two former Saint John Sea Dogs will start the season in the National Hockey League.

Jonathan Huberdeau and the Florida Panthers and Charlie Coyle and the Minnesota Wild kick off their 2013-14 seasons tonight. The Panthers are in Dallas at 9:30pm and the Wild host the Los Angeles Kings at 9pm in a game that can be seen on TSN2. NHL Centre Ice is also on free preview right now so go nuts.

Huberdeau of course spent all of last season's lockout shortened campaign with the Panthers, recording 14 goals and 31 points in 48 games en route to winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.

Coyle started last season in the AHL but stuck in the NHL after getting called up. He registered eight goals and six assists in 37 games. Quite a few people are predicting that this could be a breakout year for the power forward. The Hockey Writers wonders if he is destined for greatness.

Six Sea Dogs played in the NHL last season – Huberdeau, Coyle, Simon Despres, Mike Hoffman, Eric Gelinas, and Nathan Beaulieu. Despres, Hoffman, Gelinas, and Beaulieu will all start the year in the AHL but there is a good chance they will see action at hockey’s highest level at some point this year.
