News & Notes From Tuesday's Game

Some stuff from last night’s game…
  • Tuesday games = the worst
  • Aaron Kerr scored his first QMJHL goal at 15:01 of the first on a power play to open the scoring for Bathurst. Turned out to the be the only goal of the game.
  • Jacob Brennan made 29 saves for his fourth career shutout last night. He also had an assist on Kerr’s goal.
  • This ended a four-game losing streak for the Titan.
  • This was the second time this season that Saint John was shutout. They also went goalless on October 12th in a 3-0 loss in Halifax. That game was the beginning of a nine-game losing streak.
  • Saint John’s power play is really missing Michael Abbott these days. The Dogs went 0-for-7 last night and struggled to get much going.
  • Gabriel Gosselin was thrown out of the game at 16:20 of the first for a boarding incident involving Spencer Smallman. Video can be found below. Gosselin was given a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct while Smallman had to be attended to by JP Laciak. Smallman would leave the ice on his own but did not return.
  • Another 40+ save night for Sebastien Auger. The Sea Dogs goaltender, making his 11th straight start, made 44 saves in the loss. It was the eighth time this season that Auger has faced 40 or more shots, something he has done in each of his past four starts.
  • Former Sea Dog Scott Oke made his Titan debut after being acquired in a trade on Wednesday. Oke was held pointless and had two shots on goal.
  • Before the game, defenseman Olivier LeBlanc was named the Sea Dogs Player of the Month for October while forward Jason Cameron was named the Student of the Month.
  • Sea Dogs scratches were forwards Samuel Dove-McFalls (upper body) and Mackenzie Brown (upper body) along with defensemen Will Thompson (upper body) and Michael Abbott (upper body).
  • This was Saint John’s last home game until November 22nd. They play their next five games on the road.
  • 2,467 fans at this game. If it’s not the smallest crowd at a Sea Dogs regular season home game it’s right up there.
  • Via HockeyFights.com, here is the hit on Smallman.

NOTES: Nathan Noel had some jump in this game and had a team high six shots… Marcus Cuomo had three hits… Noel also went 15/20 on faceoffs… the Sea Dogs took a too many men on the ice penalty in the second period… interesting note from Tim Roszell on last night’s News 88.9 broadcast. Jason Cameron, Scott Oke, and Ryan Tesink are the only Sea Dogs from the 2011 team still in the QMJHL… rookie defenseman Alexander McQuaid had his fourth fight of the season.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs travel up the highway to Moncton on Thursday to face the Wildcats.

  1. The Seadogs need some help on D. Hard to score when you can't move the puck out of your zone.

  2. Agree....people talking about troubles scoring but when D can't get it out of your end or keep it in other end it's hard to score.
