7 Dogs Have Played In The Show This Year

It's only early December and it has already been a good year for the Sea Dogs at the National Hockey League level.

Seven former Sea Dogs have appeared in at least one NHL game this season. As expected, Jonathan Huberdeau and Charlie Coyle are key contributors to their teams. Eric Gelinas has also been quite impressive since being called up from the American Hockey League.
Here's a statistical look at how the seven have performed:

Yann Sauve was called up by the Vancouver Canucks earlier this year but never played.

The Detroit Red Wings are very patient with prospects, but you have to think they are happy with the way Tomas Jurco is performing this year. After a solid playoff run last Spring, Jurco has 10 goals and 13 assists in 21 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Also, this is weird:

  1. You refer to Eric Gelinas as being quite impressive. I would say he has been the most impressive of the former Dogs now playing in nthe Show.

    1. Gelinas's impressive in New Jersey because they are in rebuilding mode, but they are in a very tough division too. But half the fun of being a Sea Dogs fan is watching the graduating player advance in their careers.

  2. Huberdeau's problem is the usual one for a second year player. Gelinas's in his rookie season, Coyle's still recovering from the knee on knee earlier this year, but getting better. Beaulieu is still in training under the watchful of Butch Gallant. Grant is coming along, even in the AHL, it's pretty bad when your leading score is a defenseman. Depres has the problem of a strong healthy defense in Pittsburgh. Hoffman is just getting to point where Ottawa wants him. And Yann is still suffering with the post-concussion symtoms from the crosswalk incident in Vancouver. But all in all they're not doing all that bad As far as Jurco goes, this is classic Detroit, he won the CalderCup last year in Grand Rapids and was their top score, you just have to bide your time in Detroit.
