MacAulay had signed an American Hockey League deal with
the Hamilton Bulldogs/Montreal Canadiens that past summer. But after playing in
just 20 games between the AHL’s Bulldogs and the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, the
former Sea Dogs forward will now be going the university route.
From Metro:
“I signed the American League deal in the summer I was given a verbal commitment I would sign an NHL deal in the fall,” said MacAulay.
“Obviously, I would have liked them to show a commitment for two or three years for an entry level deal but that’s not what happened. You can’t dwell on that forever.”
The Cole Harbour native recorded a goal and an assist in
eight AHL contests. He also had two assists in 12 ECHL games.
MacAulay played with Saint John from 2008-2012. He was
traded to the Halifax Mooseheads during last year’s trading period where he won
his third straight President Cup and second Memorial Cup.
After a rough start to the AUS season, Saint Mary’s
currently sits fifth with a 7-7-0 record.
A few other things:
- Sea Dogs draft pick Jack Eichel finished the world juniors with a goal and four assists in five games.
- At the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Team Atlantic plays in the seventh-place game tomorrow against the Czech Republic. Nathan Noel had an assist in their 5-3 loss to Russia yesterday to close out the preliminary round.
- Saint John hosts the Mooseheads tomorrow night at Harbour Station. Halifax’s home game against Charlottetown scheduled for tonight was postponed.
