Top Dogs Prospects Earn Camp Invites

Luke Green and Julien Tessier have each earned invites to Canada’s national under-17 development camp.

Hockey Canada announced today the 96 players who will participate in the camp that takes place July 29 to August 4 at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary. Green was one of the 36 defensemen invited while Tessier was among the 60 forwards.

The two were both first round picks of the Sea Dogs in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft – Green was taken first overall while Tessier was taken 15th.

Green, an offensive defenseman, recorded 17 goals and 20 assists in 34 regular season games with the Newbridge Academy Gladiators of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League last year. He added another seven goals and 11 assists in 16 post-season matches.

Tessier, a left winger, registered seven goals and 14 assists in 34 Quebec Midget AAA games with the Trois-Rivieres Estacades last season. He also had four goals and five assists in nine playoff games.

The camp will be used to evaluate players for this year’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The annual tournament has a new format this year. From the release:

The development camp will serve as part of Canada’s new under-17 structure, focusing on player development. Scouts will continue to watch these players, along with other 1998-born players across the country, and 66 will be selected to represent Canada at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which is scheduled for Oct. 31 to Nov. 8 in a yet-to-be-determined location. The tournament will be the first to feature three Canadian national teams (Black, Red and White). From 1986 to 2014, Canada was represented by five regional teams: Atlantic, Ontario, Pacific, Quebec and West.

Green and Tessier will be in the spotlight on August 11th when Sea Dogs training camp begins.
