Six Cut From Camp Roster

SAINT JOHN – Ahead of the fifth scrimmage of training camp, the Saint John Sea Dogs have made six cuts.

Goaltenders Kyle Porter and Jonathan Reinhart; defensemen Brandon Asselstine, Shane MacDonald, and Jared Ostroski; and forward Shawn Hubley have all been released from the team’s training camp roster.

Porter, 18, spent last season with the Saint John Vitos of the NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League and posted a 3.09 GAA and .886 SV% in 22 games.

Reinhart, an 18-year old from Cambridge, Ontario, spent last season with the Elmira Sugar Kings of the GOJHL where he had a 2.15 GAA and .930 SV%.

Asselstine, a 17-year old defenseman from Kingston, registered six goals and 22 assists in 43 games with the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Gananoque Islanders last season. He was named to the EOJHL’s Rideau Division All Rookie Team. He also played a game with the OJHL’s Trenton Golden Hawks.

MacDonald, 19, spent time with the MHL’s Woodstock Slammers and Amherst Ramblers last season. He also appeared in two games with the Sea Dogs.

Ostroski, a 17-year old defenseman from Moncton, had two goals and eight assists in 35 games with the NB/PEI Major Midget Hockey League’s Moncton Flyers last year. He added an assist in 11 playoff games. 

Hubley, a 17-year old Sackville native, spent last season with the Halifax Macs of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League where he registered seven goals and 10 assists in 30 regular season games. He added another eight goals and eight assists in 17 playoff matches, helping the squad win NSMMHL Championship.

According to a news release, only Porter and MacDonald will remain affiliate players.

Sea Dogs camp is now down to 46 players consisting of six goaltenders, 11 defensemen, and 29 forwards.
