GAMEDAY 1: at Charlottetown

A preview of tonight’s game between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Charlottetown Islanders…

When and where: Tonight at 7:00 p.m., Eastlink Centre

Records: The Sea Dogs finished the pre-season with a record of 4-1-0-1, good for first in the Maritimes Division and second overall in the league. The Islanders went 2-4-0-0 in exhibition action and finished sixth in the division and 15th overall.

Last games: The Sea Dogs defeated the Islanders 7-5 last Saturday in Charlottetown. Matthew Highmore had two goals while singles came from Thomas Chabot, Luke Green, Nathan Noel, Adam Marsh, and Samuel Dove-McFalls. Daniel Sprong, Alexandre Goulet, Keith Getson, Mitchell Balmas, and Ryan MacKinnon had goals for the Isles. Blade Mann-Dixon and Bobby Dugan split Saint John goaltending duties while Daryl MacCallum started for Charlottetown.

2013-14 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs went 4-4-0-1 against the Islanders last season while Charlottetown went 5-3-0-1 against Saint John.

Random stat: Oliver Cooper, now an Islander, had five goals and four assists in nine games against Charlottetown last season.

SJ notes: Samuel Dove-McFalls led the Sea Dogs in pre-season scoring with three goals and two assists for five points… Dove-McFalls and Nathan Noel each had three goals in exhibition play… Sebastien Auger had a solid pre-season, allowing just three goals against on 54 shots… forwards Mitchell Dempsey and Matthew Highmore along with defenseman Olivier LeBlanc are away at NHL camps… the Dogs defeated the Isles twice during the pre-seasos. This will be the third straight meeting between the two.

CHA notes: Kameron Kielly and Daniel Sprong each had four goals and four assists for eight points in the pre-season… according to Islanders Country, Ryan MacKinnon (Buffalo), Ross Johnston (New York Islanders), Mike DiPaolo (Columbus), Alexandre Goulet (Montreal) and Mason McDonald (Calgary) are away at NHL camps while Oliver Cooper (Colorado) will leave tomorrow… Daryl MacCallum is expected to start for Charlottetown.
