Salemi On Tryout; Highmore Sent Back

Anthony Salemi is on a three-day tryout with the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The team announced this afternoon that the 17-year old free agent forward has been added to the team’s roster for, at minimum, a few days.

According to a Sea Dogs press release, the Brooklin, Ontario native “began this season with the with the Newmarket Hurricanes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), where he posted two assists and twelve penalty minutes in his first two games.”

Last season, Salemi played in 26 games with the Ajax/Pickering Raiders Major Midget AAA program where he registered 19 goals and 22 assists.

"We saw him at the Ontario Midget AAA Championships last year and he was one of the most dominating players in the tournament," said Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young. "We like his skill, competitiveness and hockey sense.”

In other roster news, the Montreal Canadiens have sent Matthew Highmore back to the Sea Dogs. Highmore had been attending the team’s rookie camp but did not receive an invite to main camp.

Saint John’s next game is this Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Harbour Station.
