Hrdinka Heading To Ivan Hlinka

Frantisek Hrdinka, the defenseman the Sea Dogs selected with their second round pick in this year’s CHL Import Draft, will play for the Czech Republic at this year’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournament.

The Sea Dogs tweeted out the news today:
Hrdinka was not listed on Saint John’s training camp roster. With the Boston Bruins expected to send Jakub Zboril back to junior and the arrival of Oliver Felixson – both import defensemen – there is no room for Hrdinka this season.

The 17-year-old recorded a combined six goals and seven assists in 33 games with Frolunda J18 last season. He also had one goal and three assists in seven games with the Czech under-17 team.

The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, an under-18 tournament, begins on Aug. 10. The Czechs will play Canada in their first game.
