Sea Dogs Add Overage Forward

The Sea Dogs have dipped into the Ontario free agent pool once again, adding right winger Sam Povorozniouk from the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires.

Last season with the Spitfires, the 20-year-old forward registered 15 goals and 24 assists in 68 games.

The Northbrook, Illinois native has spent the past four seasons in the OHL, playing with the Saginaw Spirit, Kingston Frontenacs and Spitfires. In 249 career games he has recorded 47 goals and 74 assists. He’s also recorded two points – a goal and an assist – in nine career playoff games.

Povorozniouk was a second round pick of the Spirit in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.

Elite Prospects has him listed at 5’10” and 194 lbs.

"We're excited to add Sam to our team," Sea Dogs general manager Darrell Young said in a press release. "He scored nearly twenty goals in each of the last two seasons and he played four years in the OHL. We looked at our club and saw a need to add more experience. Sam brings that here, and we believe he's a good fit for our team."

Povorozniouk joins goaltender Marc-Antoine Turcotte and defenseman Adam Bateman as overage players at Sea Dogs training camp.

Camp begins on Sunday when players report. They hit the ice for the first time on Monday.
