Veleno, D'Orio Take Part In U-17 Camp

Two of Saint John’s first round picks in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft have been in Calgary over the past few days taking part in the Hockey Canada’s under-17 development camp.

Both forward Joseph Veleno and goaltender Alex D’Orio were members of Team Black at the camp. The team finished with a 1-2 record, winning their first game 4-0 before dropping their next two games 3-2 and 5-4, respectively.

Veleno was held pointless in all three games and recorded four penalty minutes. Obviously, being an “exceptional” player, there were some eyes focused on him. From the limited coverage there was of the camp, reviews seemed to be positive.
D’Orio played half of all of Team Black’s games. He made 14 saves in the team’s opening win, helping secure a shutout. He then allowed three goals on 12 shots in the following match and then one goal on nine shots in the final game. Overall he allowed four goals on 35 shots, good for a .886 save percentage.
The duo seemed to have a good time.

Up next for the two: Sea Dogs training camp. Players will report this Sunday and hit the ice on Monday.
