Dogs Acquire Reinforcements For Opener

The Sea Dogs announced a couple trades today, acquiring forwards Jordan King and Ryan Chiasson.

King, a soon-to-turn-18-year-old from Brampton, ON, was picked up from the Halifax Mooseheads in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft.

King grew up in Corner Brook, allowing him to be drafted by the Moose in the seventh round of the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft. He recorded two goals and four assists in 51 games with Halifax last season.

The right-winger did not make the Mooseheads’ roster this season.

In a separate deal, the Sea Dogs acquired Chiasson and a 12th round 2017 draft pick from the Sherbrooke Phoenix in exchange for an 11th round pick in 2016.

In four games with the Phoenix last season, the 18-year-old was held pointless. He did, however, register three goals and five assists in 40 games with the Dieppe Commandos last year.

It’s unlikely either of these players will be on the Sea Dogs’ active roster for long. They are very likely here to help fill all the holes left by those attending NHL camps in the coming days and weeks.

Saint John opens the regular season against King’s former team, the Mooseheads, on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Harbour Station.
