Veleno Suspended One Game

According to the QMJHL website, Saint John Sea Dogs underage forward Joe Veleno has been given a one-game suspension for checking from behind.

The incident happened at 10:02 of the third period in Saint John’s 5-2 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday at Harbour Station. As play was moving up ice, Veleno hit Shawinigan’s Samuel Girard along the side boards. Veleno was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for checking from behind.

Because play was moving up ice at the time, there was no video of the hit on the webcast, meaning video probably won’t pop up online.

Girard was not hurt on the play.

Veleno, the first player to be granted exceptional status in QMJHL history, has a very respectable one goal and five assists in eight games.

Saint John’s next game is on Friday night in Charlottetown.
