Turcotte Injured; Williams Recalled

It appears Alex Bishop will be Saint John’s No. 1 goaltender for the time being.

In today’s Telegraph-Journal (paywall), Sea Dogs head coach Danny Flynn said that goaltender Marc-Antoine Turcotte suffered a neck injury and possibly a concussion in Wednesday’s game against the Moncton Wildcats. The T-J reports that Turcotte is “sidelined indefinitely.”

Turcotte, 20, was injured in the second period of Wednesday’s game when he was steamrolled by Moncton’s Will Smith. The netminder remained down on the ice for several minutes before being helped off.

Turcotte has been very good for the Sea Dogs this season, collecting 23 of the team’s 32 wins. Bishop, who is 9-5 on the year with a 3.62 GAA and a .882 SV%, will now take over as the team's No. 1.

The Sea Dogs announced this morning that Matthew Williams has been called up from the MHL’s Summerside Western Capitals. According to a team release, “the Truro-native has played 29 games in his first season with Summerside, posting an 18-9 record with a 3.26 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. His 18 wins are the most among MHL goalies and he sits second in the league in minutes played with 1,583.”

The Sea Dogs host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan tonight at 7:30 p.m.
