Isles Or Eagles On Deck For Dogs

The Saint John Sea Dogs will have to leave the province for their second playoff series – but they won’t be leaving the Maritimes.

Following today’s QMJHL playoff results, which saw the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada complete a stunning upset over the Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Charlottetown Islanders eliminate the Rimouski Oceanic, there are only two possible opponents the Sea Dogs can face in the quarterfinals.

If the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles win their series against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, the Sea Dogs will play the Eagles in the second round. Cape Breton leads that series 3-2 heading into game six tomorrow night at Centre 200.

If Chicoutimi comes back to eliminate Cape Breton, Saint John will play Charlottetown.
The Sea Dogs were 6-3-0-0 against the Screaming Eagles in the regular season and 6-1-2-0 against the Islanders.

The whole playoff picture has been thrown off thanks to the No. 13 seeded Armada’s massive six-game upset over the No. 4 seeded Foreurs.
Philippe Sanche ended the series with a goal in triple overtime tonight.


The upset ended any hopes of the Sea Dogs meeting the rival Moncton Wildcats in the second round. The Wildcats will now play the Gatineau Olympiques while the Armada will face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

As for when Saint John’s series will start, that is still unknown. Friday seems unlikely with a Saint John Mill Rats game occupying Harbour Station. So it appears the series will either start on Thursday night or at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

There is a Mill Rats game scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, but the Telegraph-Journal confirms there will be a Sea Dogs game played that night.
