Former Sea Dogs forward Zack Phillips is
heading overseas.
It was announced on Wednesday that
Phillips has signed with Tingsryds AIF of Allsvenskan, which is Sweden’s
tier-two league.
Phillips, 23, was a first round pick of
the Minnesota Wild in the 2011 NHL Draft but has struggled to produce
offensively in the professional ranks. In 260 career AHL games, Phillips has 35
goals and 65 assists. He also has two goals and two assists in seven ECHL
contests.
The Wild traded Phillips to the Boston
Bruins during the 2014-15 season. The Fredericton native started the 2015-16
campaign with the AHL’s Providence Bruins but also saw time with the ECHL’s
Atlanta Gladiators. Phillips then headed to the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning systems where
he played with Chicago Wolves and Kalamazoo Wings.
In 55 total AHL and ECHL games in
2015-16, Phillips had seven goals and 11 assists.
Phillips spent three seasons with the
Sea Dogs from 2010-2012, recording 84 goals and 135 assists in 192 games. He
added another 20 goals and 42 assists in 55 playoffs games, helping Saint John
win two President Cup titles and a Memorial Cup championship.
