RECAP: Sea Dogs fall in Charlottetown

FINAL: Saint John 5, Charlottetown 7
CHARLOTTETOWN – They were able to make it interesting, but ultimately the Saint John Sea Dogs fell short in Charlottetown on Saturday night.

The Islanders led 4-0 after the first period and went on to win the QMJHL pre-season contest 7-5 at Eastlink Centre. The Sea Dogs were able to get within two in the third period – but that was as close as they would get.

Jake Coughler and Filip Chlapik scored twice for Charlottetown while singles came from Mitchell Balmas, Guillaume Brisebois and Chris Chaddock. Matthew Welsh made 22 saves in the victory.

Matthew Highmore had two goals for Saint John while singles came from John Warren, Luke Green and Alexandre Bernier. Alex D’Orio allowed five goals on 33 shots while Alex Bishop allowed two on 18.

While D’Orio’s numbers weren’t great, Saint John didn’t do him any favours defensively. Charlottetown outshot the Dogs 22-5 in the first period and 21-12 in the second.

The Sea Dogs play their final game of the pre-season next Saturday in North Sydney against the Screaming Eagles.
