Chabot, Joseph invited to WJC camp

Thomas Chabot and Mathieu Joseph of the Saint John Sea Dogs have both been invited to Canada's national junior team selection camp.

This year's camp will take place Dec. 10-14 in Blainville, Que. The world junior tournament will begin on Boxing Day, as usual, in Toronto and Montreal.

The selection camp roster includes 19 forwards, 10 defencemen and three goaltenders.

A total of nine players from the QMJHL received invites. They are: defencemen Chabot, Guillaume Brisebois (Charlottetown Islanders), Samuel Girard (Shawinigan Cataractes), Jeremy Lauzon (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) and Philippe Myers (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies); forwards Joseph, Pierre-Luc Dubois (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles),  Julien Gauthier (Val-d’Or Foreurs) and Nicolas Roy (Chicoutimi Saguenéens).

The total is one of the best ever for the league.
Chabot, who played on last year's team, is a lock to be on this year's squad. Joseph, who is tied for the QMJHL lead in goals and had a strong showing at Team Canada's summer evaluation camp, will need to win a job. It won't be easy - especially with the possibility of NHL players joining the team at some point - but Joseph has proven this year and last that he is capable of playing at very high level.

The Sea Dogs have had two players on one world junior team only once and that was in 2012 when Jonathan Huberdeau and Nathan Beaulieu both made the squad. Zack Phillips was also invited to camp that year but did not make the team.

Sea Dogs to play for Team Canada include Chris DiDomenico (2009 - Gold), Simon Despres (2011 - Silver), Nathan Beaulieu (2012 - Bronze), Huberdeau (2012 - Bronze, 2013 - 4th) and Chabot (2016 - 6th).
