Olivier Mathieu recalled

The Saint John Sea Dogs made a roster move on Monday, recalling first-round pick Olivier Mathieu.

Mathieu has eight goals and 16 points in 17 games with the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec midget AAA ranks this season.

The 16-year-old was selected 11th overall by Saint John in this year's QMJHL Entry Draft.

Mathieu played in two games with Saint John in September, recording one assist and four shots.

The Sea Dogs have been bombarded with injuries and sickness of late. On Sunday in Moncton, the team was without Joe Veleno (lower body), John Warren (upper body), Matt Green (upper body), Bailey Webster (upper body), Chase Stewart (illness), Alexandre Bernier (illness) and Vincent Martineau (suspension).

Sea Dogs head coach Danny Flynn noted on the 96.1 NewSong FM pre-game show the other night that Warren could be back soon, Veleno is likely out until December and Green will miss four to six weeks. Safe to say the Dogs could use some help up front.

According to a Sea Dogs press release, Mathieu is expected to be available when the team hosts the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
