MONTREAL - Team Canada is off to the semifinals at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman Thomas Chabot once again played a leading role, helping Canada to a 5-3 quarterfinal victory over Jakub Zboril and the Czech Republic on Monday night at the Bell Centre.
Chabot played 25:47 - the most of any skater - and recorded a goal, an assist and three shots in the contest. That's not to mention numerous key defensive plays. The 19-year-old now has an impressive three goals and four assists in five games.
Chabot's goal came 13:32 into the second period, giving Canada a 3-2 lead not long after the Czech Republic had tied it.

Sea Dogs forward Mathieu Joseph also had a strong game, recording an assist on Canada's opening goal from Blake Speers.

Unfortunatly for Zboril, the loss eliminated the Czech Republic from the world juniors. He played 18:22 on Monday, registering an assist, four penalty minutes and two shots. He finished the tournament with four assists in five games.
Canada will play Sweden in the late semifinal on Wednesday in Montreal. The United States will take on Russia earlier in the day.
