Aces, Dogs prospects heading to playoffs

The St. Stephen Aces are heading to the Maritime Hockey League playoffs for the first time in team history.

The Aces' spot in the post-season was confirmed this afternoon with the Summerside Western Capitals defeating the Woodstock Slammers. The Woodstock loss allowed the Aces to stay two points ahead and finish the regular season fourth in the Eastlink North Division.

St. Stephen kept their playoff hopes alive with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over the Dieppe Commandos on on Saturday. The game-winning goal was setup by Saint John Sea Dogs prospect Alex Lafreniere.


The Aces finished the regular season with a record of 16-25-6-3 and will now face the Miramichi Timberwolves (35-12-2-1) in the opening round of the playoffs.

Along with Lafreniere, the Aces feature Ben Reid (seventh round pick, 2015) and Matthew O'Leary (12th round, 2015).
