StFX wins AUS title

The StFX X-Men are Atlantic University Sport men's hockey champions once again.

The X-Men completed a sweep of the UNB Varsity on Wednesday night in Antigonish, erasing a 3-1 deficit to earn a 5-4 win. StFX won the best-of-three AUS final 2-0.

It's the second straight AUS title for the X-Men, who also beat UNB in last year's final. The Varsity Reds then went on to defeat the X-Men in the national championship game played in Halifax.

StFX features former Sea Dogs forwards Mark Tremaine and Marcus Cuomo.

Both UNB and StFX had already earned spots in next week's University Cup. The Acadia Axemen will be the third AUS team heading to nationals following a sweep of the Saint Mary's Huskies in the consolation final.

Along with Cuomo and Tremaine, former Dogs Stephen Anderson, Mike Thomas, Oliver Cooper and Matt Murphy of the Varsity Reds will play for a national championship next week.

Two more former Sea Dogs - Justice Dundas and Steven Anthony - could be playing in the tournament if the Windsor Lancers are able to defeat the McGill Redmen in the OUA's bronze medal game on Friday.

Meanwhile, former Sea Dogs goaltender Sebastien Auger of UQTR has been named a second team OUA East All-Star.
