SAINT JOHN – The Sea Dogs have traded goaltender Blade Mann-Dixon to the Moncton
Wildcats in exchange for a 10th-round draft pick in 2017.
It was announced earlier today that
Mann-Dixon had been loaned to the Wildcats. He is now officially a
member of the team.
The 18-year-old, who has one of the best
names in league history, was an 11th-round pick of Saint John in the
2014 QMJHL Entry Draft. He spent part of the 2014-15 season’s first half with
the Dogs, appearing in three games and posting a 2-1 record to go along with a
3.82 goals against average and a .878 save percentage.
Mann-Dixon has posted solid numbers in
the Maritime Junior ‘A’ Hockey League with the Valley Wildcats. Last season he
went 12-2-2 with a 2.40 GAA and .925 SV% in 16 regular season games. He was an
MHL first team all-star last year and the league’s rookie of the year in
2013-14.
The Antigonish native was in tough to
make this year’s Sea Dogs team with the likes of Marc-Antoine Turcotte, Alex
Bishop and Alex D’Orio competing for spots. There's also no doubt that his
size – 5’7” and 143 lbs – is a concern at this level.
The addition of Mann-Dixon gives the
Wildcats 11 goaltenders on their training camp roster. That’s a lot of goalies.
The Sea Dogs and Wildcats meet three times this
pre-season. Their first meeting will be on Saturday, Aug. 22 at Harbour
Station.
